Hey, guys . It's Lauren with Discover Double Bass, and I'm in a little bit of a different setup than usual today . If you haven't heard the news, I have moved to Australia which is super exciting , but I'm still waiting on a lot of my equipment to get here . So I'm not using my usual cameras, my usual lights, or my instrument , but that's okay. . It's still gonna be a good lesson jam-packed full of all of the information that you need to know . Today, I wanted to talk about one of the most common concerns that I get which is pain in the bow hand or the bow arm . And there's some really common things that people do that causes pain and tension in the right arm . Today I'm gonna outline what those are and what you can do to prevent yourself from doing them . I personally believe that all pain and tension in the bow arm is caused by unnecessary squeezing , and the root of that squeezing is gonna be coming from your fingers . If you're holding the bow up just in the air like this , if you can notice the way that your hand is gripping on the frog , it should just be a relaxed form. . This goes for the bow hand, the bow grip, and the bow arm . And what I mean by that is, you should keep your hand in this shape on the frog, but you , but you shouldn't have to squeeze to hold the stick up . If I were to let go with my left hand I would have to squeeze a little bit, but the good , but the good thing is when you rest the bow on the string like this , you can use the string as leverage and let the weight of your arms sink into the string rather than squeezing and gripping and having to push in like this . You shouldn't have to hold the bow on the string . You should actually let it sink into the string , and if you do this, that will allow you to , that will allow you to relax the thumb muscle , which is a really, really common place for attention and pain, , the back of the hand another common place
