"Oh My God It's His Mother!" - Lesley Manville Says People Still Get Surprised By "Oedipus"

Hey everybody, [cheering] welcome back ladies and gentlemen. My next guest [cheering] tonight is an actress you know best from Phantom Thread, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris and The Crown. She's now making her Broadway debut in Edipus. Please welcome to the Late Show Leslie Manville. [cheering] [music] [cheering] Hi. It's so nice to meet you. It's nice to meet you, too. I just love Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. Oh, it's a good film. My wife and I just fell in love with that. [cheering] Yeah. The perfect film to come out just after co Yes. Exactly. cuz it just made everyone feel better and uplifted and Yeah. Yes. sweet and funny and fascinating. Um you've you've long been a fixture of uh film and TV London's West End. U now you're on Broadway [cheering] There you go. [applause] Well, hang on. Hang on. You may say Edipus, but we say Edypus. And that's [cheering] And you know what? Tomato tomato. I forgive you. Thank you. [laughter] And so I I find it's hard to believe this is your Broadway debut. Someone who's got so much theatrical chops. You play Jocasta, who's Edypus's uh wife uh and uh spoiler alert, mom. Um although the play is famous, do you think there's a chance that you're surprising the audience ever with that revelation? Well, you'd think, wouldn't you, that everyone knew how it ended and what the revelation was, but the other night there was a lady sitting behind a
