Hello, my name is Andy. How are you? Let's talk about the Cythian language. The Cythian language was an ancient Iranian language spoken by the Cythians who inhabited the Pontic step and Crimea from roughly the 9th to the 3rd centuries BC with a small group surviving in Crimea until the 4th to 5th centuries AD. It was an unwritten language, so our knowledge of it is extremely limited and comes almost entirely from individual words or names recorded by Greek authors. These fragments such as personal names, tribal terms, and a few cultural words are the only securely attested Cythian vocabulary we have today. Despite this scarcity, linguistic evidence clearly places Cythian within the Iranian branch, closely connected to other ancient Iranian languages of Central Asia. The Cythians were a nomadic people of Central Asian origin whose culture blended step traditions with influences from the Black Sea region and the Hellenistic worlds. Their mythology shows strong parallels with other Iranian cultures, especially in their legends of divine ancestry and nature worship. The snake goddess, daughter of the Buristines river and mother of the first cytheians. Araoxai Lipoxai and Kolaki ki resembles the Iranian goddess Anahita. While the fire and earth goddess Tabiti corresponds to the Hindu goddess Tapati. Cyian art is famous for its animal style expressing ancients Iranian myths through dynamic ornaments such as the chto lick vase depicting the legends of the three brothers and the bow string trial. Their cuisine reflected both Central Asian and Black Sea influences and included foods like gurut or insithian, epaki, kumis, shashlick and trout with lentils, illustrating a way of life shaped by mobility, myth and cultural exchange. In the next part, let's listen to the beautiful sounds of their language vocabulary.
