All the ways to Stablize your footage with DaVinci Resolve

Today I'm going to be showing you guys all the methods that you can use to stabilize your footage inside of Dinci Resolve. I'm going to be showing you guys the beginner, the intermediate, and the advanced way to stabilize all your footage. So, let's get into it. There are so many different ways Da Vinci Resolve actually allows you to stabilize your footage. The quickest and the simplest way is simply right over here on the edit page. Come on over to your inspector. Click your inspector and come down to stabilization. Over in stabilization, you have three different modes: perspective, similarity, and translation. Perspective analyzes and adjusts for panning, tilting, zooming, and rotation. This one's very similar to like Adobe's warp stabilizer. Similarity is basically the exact same thing as perspective, but it does things just slightly less aggressive as perspective. Translation only analyzes horizontal and vertical movement, ignoring rotation and zoom, and it's really good for very, very minor things. So, when you have a clip right here, the easiest way to go ahead and stabilize your footage is just come over here and you can press stabilize. It's going to analyze the clip and it'll stabilize the footage. We are getting some weird warping happening with perspective. So, a way to fix that is to simply grab the smooth and bring the smooth all the way up and we're just going to be smoothing out those jittery effects on the stabilization. Go ahead and press stabilize again. It'll restabilize and go through. Now, I already know on this clip it's not going to work super great cuz now you can see it is smoothing out those jitters, but it's just being a little bit too aggressive. So, if it is being too aggressive, now all you have to do is just kind of play with the strength and the smoothness in order to get a desired look that you like. So, right there feels pretty close, but it's not perfect. If perspective isn't working, let's head down to similarity. Now, we're going to do the same thing on similarity. Just simply press stabilize to stabilize your footage. And we can now scrub through and see how it did. You can see that similarity did a little bit better job on this clip.
