Hello YouTube. Today we have an RTX 4090 . It's one of the most powerful graphics cards on the market at the moment , but sometimes I wonder if 24 GB of VRAM is really enough . I found out recently that you can actually upgrade these cards to 48 gig . So I went out and I bought 24 gig of extra memory chips . And that's where things started to get complicated . The RTX 4090 PCBs were only ever designed to accept 12 memory chips , meaning physically there's nowhere to put the additional 12 . If you spend enough time digging around dark corners of the internet , you might be able to buy something like this . This is a custom PCB designed to take the 4090 core and 24 memory chips rather than the original 12. So, you've got 12 on the front and 12 on the back . That means in theory if we combine this Now, on my bench power supply, the stock 4090s draw about two and a half amps . That's with VRAMm on, so this may be a little less . Um, but I've got the power supply set to 12 volts, 2.5 amps . And we're just going to hit the power button and see what current this thing draws . See if it looks like it's alive or dead . So, we'll be looking for around 2 amps . I think 2.0 0 amps and we getting voltages . I don't want to leave it on too much otherwise it will overheat . But let's just quickly check voltage on memory which is 1.36 which is okay. And cool . And cool 7 . What was this one up here? ? Was this PEX88 volts there ? So that seems reasonable. . We have 1.2 and 1.8. 1.8 . Okay, that all looks good. Just going to keep the stencil down just in case . A pair of tweezers. There we go
