welcome my name is avery Peck and here I'll be breaking down and recreating what I consider to be the look of stranger things we'll start with an outside shot that has that soft retro feel then we'll be moving on to a nice dark interior shot that kind of matches the look of Mike's basement so go ahead and grab your camera let's get started [Music] so I'm gonna start off with the daylight look because I think this is probably the easier of the two now there are are three elements that we really want to pay attention to here dynamic range color palette and separation let's address dynamic range first both seasons of the show were shot on red cameras and to really do the look justice we need to maximize the dynamic range coming from our camera if you're on a DSLR you can start by turning your in-camera contrast all the way down or you can use a flat picture profile like log or cinestyle if you have that I'll be shooting this on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera so I'm using the green bar under the gamma there we go I can also maybe bring some green out of the highlights and there we go now we have a balanced image here's the before and here's the after it looks much better I can also bring in just a little bit more color and that looks s about right now we can start to create that stranger things look I'm gonna hit alt s and alt P to add a parallel node and we're gonna use a couple of parallel nodes to help create the color palettes of this shot so in this first node I'm gonna qualify this skin so I'll come to my qualifier tab grab the eyedropper tool and select my skin tones here then I'll grab the feather tool and just drag this around a little bit to help blend my selection perfect now at this point I'm also going to grab a power window and just constrain this right to my face so we can see
