Is a data analytics career still worth it in 2026? Especially if you want to work remotely. The honest answer is that data analyst jobs do exist, but things have changed. You can't just learn SQL and Excel like you used to be able to do, throw a portfolio and your resume, and expect offers to roll in. We've all heard the same tired advice from uh influencers on LinkedIn who haven't held a data job in years saying, "Just post on LinkedIn, go viral, get a bunch of jobs." I digress. Anyways, in this video, I'm going to give you the exact data analyst skills that you need including the most premium skills and how to stand out. I'm going to show you how to build a strong portfolio to get interviews and what to actually do in those interviews. And finally, I'm going to show you how to thrive in a remote role even after you've gotten hired. This is important. If you're new to the channel, my name is Matt and I'm a data analyst and Power BI developer. I've had remote jobs, hybrid jobs, fully in-person jobs. And one thing we need to discuss before we even jump into what you need to do to get a remote job is I want to talk about the reality of getting a remote job today. It is certainly still possible, but one thing you need to keep in mind is that when you are trying to obtain a remote job, you are opening yourself to the global market. And what I typically see when you're competing against the global market for a remote role is that you see 10 times the applicants that you would normally see in a role that is maybe in-office or even a hybrid environment. So, if you're looking to get hired fast, I would encourage you to stay open to in-person roles, hybrid roles because they tend to be less competitive. I understand that if having a remote job is a non-negotiable for you because it is so competitive, it will probably take you longer to land that job. Longer than it would if you were, say, open to fully in-person roles, which again, just tend to be less competitive. So, with that point clear, we can go ahead and move on to the meat of this video, how to actually get these jobs and how to thrive in them. So, the first thing we need to discuss is the skill stack. What actually gets you hired remotely? I'd say that not every skill carries equal weight in a remote environment. So, you need to prioritize ruthlessly. We're talking about technical skills, the core three that are still relevant today are SQL, Excel,
