A Deep Dive into The Weeknd's After Hours Trilogy

The weekend's latest trilogy of albums starting with After Hours throws us directly in a downward spiral that he can't seem to get out of . And the first thing we learn is that he's playing a character suppressing who he is on the inside and that even though he's in front of this girl, he feels alone . [Music] It's an odd way to start an album . However, slowly but surely, things start falling into place . [Music] We learned they're in Las Vegas, they're in a relationship, but most importantly, something's wrong end, every place, every house , everywhere is hell for Abel . It's all just an empty life for him . If he doesn't have the one he loves until I bleed out is easily my favorite song on this album because of how it ties everything together so well . It's first of all a direct response to after hours where it's clear Bella left already and Abel is facing the long journey ahead . [Music] There's this sense of paralysis Abel talks about he can't move anymore . He's incredibly afraid . You may think that it's because he ended up alone . That was . But it's actually because he realizes what this all was . We're thrown into this album like we're in a dream . We don't remember where it starts . We're just right at the moment everything is falling apart . And the whole album is about a character getting tormented over and over . He's getting broken up with, so he goes on the worst night of his life , almost overdosing and passing out because of that . While he's out, he ends up getting the worst form of torture you could possibly imagine, being so close to the thing that you know will end all your misery and getting that thing
