let's start this video in the dark so you can see the subject of this video which is a light that projects basically a circle and it's not super bright the power rating here is three watts um and it projects colors now it's just a fixed color although the listing almost implies it can change color and it almost looks in the listing as though it's multiple color leds it just has basically a red patch in here and it graduates to orange and outside it looks a bit random now this was suggested by some called steven isles and he reckoned it might just be an led in a lens and well that's more or less what it is let's take a closer look at it the first thing you notice about this light is it has a really big bullseye style lens on it it's really quite attractive and if you look into the end of it i don't yes you are seeing the dichroic effect if i shine a flashlight into it and just reflect it and then change the angle you'll see it changes color quite dramatically depending on the angle and this is down to the dichroic coating dichroic film it is they've just stuck sticky film over a standard plastic lens oh that's odd the dichroic coating that gives this iridescent effect actually you know what is that no it's just the film that's strange it's orange but it's got that coat in the front and although the main effect i would have thought would be the color of the plastic itself it's strange it's decorated plastic but dichroic is when they put a layer of metal molecules on it and you can see this lensing the mirror effect here they put a layer of a molecular thick layer of metal on it and the thickness is it just built up to the point that it's at close to the chosen light's wavelength and it sometimes goes on a bit unevenly and that's possibly an advantage here but that results in a sort of mirror effect it looks from one inside it looks like a colored filter but from the other side when you look through you can see a reflection it is just reflecting random colors it's quite a nice effect it's used a lot in theater type lights and the actual cost of thing is a lot higher a lot of them are doing that
