The WNBA Will Never Be The Same..

What's up you guys? I'm Rachel Dita and welcome to the courtside club . Today I want to talk a little bit more about this new WNBA CBA and specifically the salary structure because honestly the more and more I hear about the details of this new CBA, I'm thinking that we are going to see an entirely different WNBA this season . There are over 100 free agents and some of your favorite players on some of your favorite teams might not be on those teams anymore . And here is why . So, Alexa Philippo just published this new article that says , "WNBA's new CBA expedites ability to land max deals." And just to clarify you guys, it seems like every team will be able to have two max contract players . There's a super max and then there's a max contract player or both player s could be max contract players . But just keep that in mind when we talk through some of this . The way that the salary cap breaks down , it pretty much only leaves room for two players to be on max deals and then the rest of the salaries with role players and rookies and everybody in . So, the pending WNBA collective bargaining agreement will fasttrack the ability for players on rookie scale contracts to make maximum and super max salaries . The new provision called Epic allows players to renegotiate their fourthyear salary and earn the standard max in that year if they were previously named all WNBA first team or second team or the super max if they previously won MVP . So, also just so you guys know, most rookie deals are four years, okay ? And before that, you had to finish out your rookie contract before you could be eligible for any sort of max contract . Now, essentially what they're saying is in that fourth year, if you have been all WNBA first team or second team or you have one MVP in your first three seasons in the league, then you are eligible for a Max or Supermax contract . Now, obviously, when we talk about something like this, all eyes go to the Indiana Fever . They have two examples of players on that team currently who will and also next year.
