A quick preview of the first subtitles so you know what the video covers.

A little while ago, we came across a competition with a very absurd premise to design an intergenerational spaceship that travels to another star for about 250 to 400 years . And this idea just freaked me out . Imagine being that middle generation . You're born and you live and then you die inside this metal container and the only thing that's keeping you alive is the systems running quietly and perfectly in the background . But one little error that could mean the end of you and the rest of your entire world . Well, there are real architects and engineers working on this project . And the more I looked into it, I did become quite fascinated cuz in the end, you're not really designing a vehicle or even a spacecraft . You're designing a civilization, one that needs to survive in complete isolation for centuries . So, how do you build a world that helps us remember where we come from ? And if we Then 35 days to slow down . Then the last of it goes until it's only left with the habitat modules . At departure, this ship dedicates 844,000 tons to every single person on board . By arrival, it's 1454 . Within the habitats are five nested shells, each with its own function , spinning independently to generate their own artificial gravity . [music] The habitat hosts roughly 600 people and has power, farms , and multiple nuclear fusion reactors . [music] To get from here to here, you can take one of these elevators , but what's really interesting is there's five of these habitats . They call them stages . Each stage is kind of like a self-contained world . They're running parallel lives in identical . Meaning if one of them fails, it can be completely sealed off . You increase your chance of success through redundancy . The mission can still survive simply by amputating the part . It actually reminds me of the silo from the show Silo based on Wool , which I also made a video on.
