I've covered quite a few different remote access solutions for home assistant in the past either through port forwarding on your router or setting up a VPN but recently there has emerged another way to do it via a cloudflare tunnel let's show you how to set that up with a free domain name and explain why you might do this over some of those other methods that we've talked about in the past so in the past we've looked at a method that involves getting a free domain name on Duck DNS an SSL certificate from let's encrypt and port forwarding on your router straight to home assistant to open up remote access and that does give you a very convenient way of accessing your ha when you 're away from home but but isn't the most secure way and it doesn't work if you have a CG or a carrier grade Nat we've also looked at another method that creates a VPN through wireguard or tailscale which is a bit more secure than a straight port forward and does work with the CG Nat but it does have the job back that you are not able to use them with Google
