Mask Subjects in SECONDS in DaVinci Resolve FREE (No Studio Needed!)

So, you want to mask out your subjects in the free version of DaVinci Resolve . You go on YouTube and every tutorial says to use magic mask . However, you don't have magic mask because you only have the free version of the software . And look, the studio version is completely worth it . Not only for magic mask, but for all the pro feature it provides . $295 is a pretty big commitment, especially if you just want to do some simple effects . In this video, I'm going to show you three ways you can mask out your subjects in the free version of DaVinci Resolve . And you're going to want to stick around for option three . It's going to give you magic mask lover results in literal seconds and completely for free. Let's . Let's get into it . Here in DaVinci, I have a clip of me riding a bike when I was in Asia . And I want to add a text layer that shows up behind me as I bike into frame . Here in track two is I have this Asia text , but as you can see, it's showing up in front of my body . [music] What I want to do here is mask out my upper body such that it shows up in front of the text . We'll need to copy the clip into a track above and cut it to the length of the text layer . Let's get started with option one, manual . This gives you the most control over your mask , but I'm going to be real with you , it can literally take hours as you'll need a mask out your subjects frame by frame . In order to do this, head over to the fusion tab and click shift space to open up the effects library . Search for polygon and apply this to your media in one node . Toggle this button to see the underlying clip and then start adding tracking points to the parts of the clip you want to mask out . Since I only want the text to show up behind my upper body , I'm just going to do a very rough outline here . Once that is done, you can [music] toggle this back on . The subject is now masked out and the background is removed . However, if you just move one frame forward , you can see the subject has started to [music] move
