for the past 7 years I've been using Linux as my daily driver and it's probably one of the best decisions I've ever made however throughout this time I've managed to keep a dirty secret I've not had a proper backup system in place now this isn't because of a lack of tooling on Linux there's plenty of options out there the problem instead is a lack of Simplicity as most of the tooling available requires a good understanding in order to use them effectively when compared to other operating systems this can be a real drawback take for example Apple's time machine which is found on Mac OS whilst it's a little bit gudy for my own personal tastes it does a really good job of making incremental backups feel rather simple when it comes to Linux I haven't found there to be anything as comparable not until recently when I discovered pea backup pea is a gtk application that is a part of gnome Circle it also happens to be the application that I think is the most simple for backing up your files in Linux to show you what I mean let me first install it on this new machine pea is available on either flatb or your operating systems package manager in this video I'm using Arch by the way in so I'll install it using paru in the case of the arch user repository it builds the package from scratch which took a bit of time once it's complete however we can then open it up and check it out in this video I'm using version 0.7 which was released a couple of days before recording in order to get started we need to create a new backup configuration which we can do by pressing the big blue setup button by doing so we're taken to the setup page which will allow us to either create a new repository or use an existing one in this case I want to set up a new one
