school was finally over and summer was here normally mother and I would have gone shopping for some summer clothes but not this year she had told me that things were a little tight financially and that my Aunt Jeannie had given us a big pile of hand-me-downs from my cousin Chrissy of course Chrissy was a girl and I am a boy but that didn't seem to faze mother she said don't worry there are plenty of things in this pile that are unisex and perfectly suitable for a boy or a girl I knew that Chrissy was a pretty girly girl so I had my doubts about that as the summer wore on I kind of went through the more androgynous clothing and the clothes that mother started giving me seemed to be increasingly feminine I thought one of the least girly things were a pair of denim cut off shorts but the top started getting more and more feminine one day we were going out to a local park for a picnic and mother handed me this Lacy top to wear I finally had enough and told her I she said you'll wear what I say young man my eyes started tearing up and I started pleading with her I said but mother you can see right through that top everyone will know I am a boy people will call me a and make fun of me mother paused for a moment I was hoping she would take some pity on me and I guess in a way she did she said okay I'll tell you what I will give you a choice you can go as is but if you're worrying about people making fun of you you know honey if you were abroad or your blouse maybe something in your hair people would think you were a girl and a pretty one at that and then no one would make fun of you so the choice is yours I will do whatever you want
