We obtained permission to follow several of the most hardline of these brigades. . Paramilitary groups, mainly Syrians . Some are made up of former members of Islamic State or of the al-Nusra front close to Alqaaida . Several thousand combatants come together in factions around Bakia, Idlib, and Aleppo . Like the Islamic State, they're fighting a holy war . Like the Islamic State, they want to . And like the Islamic State, they dream of establishing a new caliphate . For all these reasons, the Islamic State and the brigades don't fight each other , nor are they allies. They cohabit . These jihad squadrons wage war relentlessly .
