Trust the science. That's what we must all do. Yet for some reason, the science trademark doesn't seem to want to advertise its findings on certain biological studies, especially disparities between groups. No doubt fearing the backlash from the science deniers would much rather such data be buried so that they can continue in their fairy-tale worldviews like blank slat ism or egalitarianism. Which is why in this video we'll be covering topics that the anti-science crowd would rather be forgotten. And if you enjoyed it, consider subscribing. It helps the channel. But we'll be doing so with tact. Biology at scale can be a sensitive topic, which is why when discussing its effects in human groups, instead of naming the actual groups, I'll stick to hypothetical examples to illustrate my points. These will be the circles, the squares, and the triangles. And if you notice any real-life parallels, that's just you projecting your own preconceived notions, which if you think about it actually makes you the racist. One of the most important parts about biology that is often overlooked is the effect that geography has on it, which is why we'll be creating a hypothetical world to illustrate the points for our hypothetical identities. As you can see, the circles, squares, and triangles all live very far from one another. However, what's quite important to note is this region. It's a massive desert that has almost completely cut off contact between the squares and the rest of the world for nearly 40, 000 years. For reference, domestic dogs became a distinct species about 15 to 30,000 years. So naturally, under such a massive time span with very limited admixture, squares would continue to adapt under unique circumstances from the rest of the world. Biologists have many measures by which they demonstrate the genetic differences between organisms. One of the most widely recognized measures is the fixation index. It's simply a measure of the allele frequency in two organisms. The more matching alleles, the more related the organisms are. If the fixation index is below 0.15, the genetic difference is considered moderate to low. This is where we can find closely related subspecies or members of the same species. For example, different North American gray wolves, even though they are different subspecies, fall into this category. At levels greater than 0.15, we find greatly differentiated organisms.
