How to Pass Your Lead Climbing Test

hello there my name is jason schmaltz and i'm an amga single pitch instructor and today i'm going to show you how to pass your lead test at your gym and uh it's really important to get lead certified in a gym because it's kind of the gateway to going outside whether you're going to go sport climbing track climbing or any style of route climbing outside being able to practice in the gym and get your technique down is really important it's also important so that you know how to support partners outside so i'm going to go through the different components of a test that you'll see and you can practice them before you take your test in the gym and then get certified the first thing that the examiner is going to probably ask you to do is to go ahead and flake a rope a and as we flake a rope i'll show you the process for that so clinton uh why don't you show um the rope uh me flaking the rope right here in the pile so i want to flake the rope in a nice neat pile so that it's all the strands are on top of each other so that when i go to start climbing and now as i'm flaking the rope i'm looking for any kind of special any kind of imperfections in the sheath or any kind of like if the rope is weak see how right there i can't bend the rope all the way but if i could where those two strands touch each other that would be a weak point in the rope i want to be kind of looking for those or any big frays in the rope i want to be looking for as i flake it okay so as i finish flaking the rope i'll go ahead and take um the climbers in and tie in we'll go ahead and tie a figure eight follow through so kind of like i showed another video you
