The government hides something important from you. They don’t want ordinary people ever to discover the truth. The internet is full of fake photos and false locations, but almost none are real. So what secret are they keeping? You won’t believe what you’re about to hear. They’re hiding a tree. But it’s not just any tree—its branches grow money. Do you believe that? Of course not. It’s a joke. But the truth is America *does* protect the world’s oldest tree, called Matuzalem. Search that name online, and you’ll find tons of fake photos and some twisted old oaks. Real images of Matuzalem are rare, and its location remains a mystery. [music] We only know it grows somewhere along the Matuzalem Trail in Inio National Forest in California. [music] This bristlecone pine is over 4,600 years old. Imagine touching its trunk and feeling all those thousands of years of history—but don’t. That’s why the country hides its location. If thousands of tourists touched it and stripped branches, it wouldn’t last a month. Many trees in the area are now weak, suffering from drought and pests. So Matuzalem is also in danger. **Don’t touch it—don’t get too close, even if you know where it grows.** The tree was discovered by dendrochronologist Edmund Szulman. A dendrochronologist studies ancient tree rings—but more on that later. Szulman found it in the mid-20th century, and since then, it’s been surrounded by legends and rumors. But how did he know it was the oldest? In 1957, he took a core sample and analyzed its annual rings. You see, every year inside the tree forms a layer like a ring. But scientists don’t cut it down—don’t worry. They extract a pencil-thin slice, and that’s enough.
