let's have a look at the sa synth that's new in costic 3.2 the sa synth is modeled after the Roland JP 8000 synth that had a preset on it called super saw and that's been used a lot since it came out uh very popular in the Rave days for Rave sounds but it's been used all over um the default preset is a little bit more interesting than the normal defaults that come with costic and um you get a sense of the sound that it makes let me just set it up to a more boring sound so we can start from the basics okay so from here let's just go and look at the controls so at the heart of the saw synth is an oscillator now this is the supera oscillator it's actually nine oscillators running in dtune and that's what gives it that kind of chorus Lush sound the way it works is you've got a central frequency um that's always going to play on the Note frequency and then four frequency on either side so four lower than the note and four higher than the note which are spaced out um in a way that's controlled by the simulation here and um the volume mix of the central you know on tune frequency and the outer dtune frequency can be controlled as well so if we've got it set up in a really basic setup here um it just sounds like a simple Sawtooth synth uh pretty boring sounding we can change between saw too Square wave and a pulse wave which sort of sounds in between the two but to get a more interesting sound we've got to play with Dune and mix so let me just bring up the mix and this will bring up the mix of the dtune and the central on tune frequency to be even and then playing with the dtune you'll really get a sense of how this [Music] works so at the extreme here those outer frequencies are quite far from the note and you get a almost dissonant sound but let's just tone it down to something more reasonable
