Why Broken Worlds Feel Comforting

I've always been curious about the common trope of what life would be like if I were to wake up one day to find our world has undergone some catastrophic event like a zombie apocalypse . And now I walk the land 20 or so years later . Now, this would obviously be terrible . Everything I would have known would have been destroyed or gone in some way, but there's still this strange appeal that these kinds of worlds bring . [music] They seem peaceful . My favorite game of all time is Breath of the Wild . Tied with it is Elden Ring . And the rest of my top spots are filled with the remaining From Software titles as well as games like Near, Hollow Knight, and The Last of Us . Clearly, this desire to live in a broken world has taken root in the types of games I like to play . To me, traversing these kinds of worlds has always been therapeutic and [music] relaxing, but it's also not an experience that only I seek out . Each of these games are critically acclaimed and loved by so many players. And . And so this leads me to wonder why. Why do we as
