Proxmox is a powerful virtualizer, but creating a new virtual machine can be tedious. You have to manually configure hardware, add the virtual CD, and set everything up. What you probably don’t know is that you can do it all much easier. Are you tired of the traditional Proxmox VM setup—configuring the ISO, disk, network card, and everything manually? Today, I’ll show you a faster, automated, and professional way to create virtual machines. This method could completely change how you use Proxmox—whether in your home lab or production. If you’re new here, hi! My name is Caio, and I’ve been working in tech for over 18 years. Since 2021, I’ve been making videos on this channel about DevOps, self-hosting, and home labs. If these topics interest you, leave a like, subscribe, and let’s go! If you’d like deeper support, consider becoming a member—it helps me keep creating content. Okay, let’s get started. But first, I’ll cover some key concepts that will be part of this video. If you’d rather skip straight to the tutorial, relax—I’ve included chapters below for easier navigation. We’re talking Proxmox, right? No cloud nonsense. We’ll cover two widely used cloud concepts: **Cloud Image** and **Cloud Init**. Cloud Init is a tool that automatically configures a VM when it’s first powered on. As soon as the VM starts, Cloud Init reads a config file and applies the settings described there. If you’ve worked with VMs in WS, you’ve probably seen this—it’s called **user data**. With it, we can set the machine’s name, hostname, SSH keys, user creation, network setup, package installation, and run custom scripts—plus much more.
